Age-Friendly Program Description
The AFC work is led by a community based organization/network. They are current working on: updating their Age Friendly website, finalizing the job description and hiring a part time coordinator, completing by-laws for incorporating and then applying for charitable status, holding the first Annual General Meeting – October 9 – election of officers and approval of by-laws, implementation of the Community Action Plan, participating in community events, participating in the local LHIN Senior Care Advisory Committee, having Age Friendly Thunder Bay Steering Committee volunteers sit on various community organizations representing Age Friendly and bringing the senior agenda to their tables, holding four Age Friendly Steering Committee meetings annually, applying for core operating funding through different sources – government/foundations/etc., and continually updating their membership list as more individuals/organizations join Age Friendly Thunder Bay.

- Walking Program (Free program, carpooling encouraged. Friends, neighbours, former co-workers, family all meet and walk – now at Lakehead University)
- CyberSeniors (Intergenerational programs where students help seniors with technology)
Respect & Social Inclusion
- GIANTS (Grand Individuals Aging with Neighbours in Thunder Bay (GIANTs) gets seniors providing tips to other seniors about aging in their homes)
- Words of Wisdom Videos (Local older adults answered the question “What would you tell your younger self?”)
