Age-Friendly Program Description
The AFC work is led by municipal staff. The Age Friendly Community process was great for Petawawa and there were some clear targets identified. Housing and Transportation services were key and they have successfully added 14 affordable housing units with an additional apartment complex coming on board with 8 accessible units. As for Transportation, they have just received a 5 year grant from MTO to implement a door to door transportation service for “daily living needs”. The community believes the fact that they had completed an Age Friendly needs assessment process greatly benefitted their Transportation application and subsequent success.
The Transportation service community organizations and partners are remobilizing to review program and service offerings to create transportation schedule of service that best meets the needs of the community senior and disabled residents.
Collaboration amongst all is the catalyst to achieve program success and benefits to the residents.
