Atiya Mahmood, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Gerontology Department at the Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Vancouver, Canada. Her Ph.D. is in Architecture with a focus on environment-behaviour studies. Her research focuses in several distinct, yet related areas, within the general area of aging, health and environment. These are: a) Age-friendly community and inclusive neighbourhood design for mobility, access and participation of older adults and persons with disabilities; b) Housing insecurity, homelessness and aging in the right place; c) Social engagement, aging in place and intergenerational relationships in multi-unit housing. Her methodological expertise includes qualitative, mixed-method and community-based participatory research.
