AVOID Frailty: A Virtual Education Series for Older Adults and Caregivers
Frailty is a medical condition of reduced function and health in older adults. Getting older doesn’t necessarily mean someone is frail, but it does increase the odds of developing multiple medical conditions and frailty. This five-part series was based on an evidence-informed framework, AVOID Frailty. AVOID refers to: Activity (physical activity and cognitive stimulation), Vaccination, Optimization of medications, Isolation and loneliness, and Diet and nutrition. Each session reviewed current evidence and offered practical strategies for how older adults in south east Ontario can reduce frailty.
This AVOID Handout includes key messages specific to each strategy, in addition to a listing of programs and services in southeastern Ontario and links to additional resources.
