AFC Webinar – Developing a Council on Aging – Advancing your Local Age-Friendly Efforts

Learn how some communities in Ontario have successfully advanced their age-friendly efforts by developing a local Council on Aging. Two experienced Council on Aging members will share insights into various potential approaches by reviewing a Planning Guide, recently developed by the Ontario Association of Councils on Aging, that provides practical suggestions from “getting started” to “becoming sustainable”. In addition, they will provide valuable contact information to assist with your age-friendly journey.

Presenter Bio

Sarah Bercier
Executive Director, Council on Aging of Ottawa
 
Sarah Bercier has been Executive Director of the Council on Aging of Ottawa since 2014. She has spent more than 30 years focused on issues related to retirement, aging, and later life. Sarah has a passion for aging issues and enjoys working with and for seniors in Ottawa in identifying the ongoing opportunities available to advance the wellbeing of Ottawa’s older adults. She is very much enjoying the opportunity to collaborate with other Councils on Aging across the province through the Ontario Association of Councils on Aging.

 

Dominic Ventresca
Chair, Age-Friendly Niagara Council
 
Dominic Ventresca is an age-friendly community advocate. Currently, Dominic is the Chair for the Age-Friendly Niagara Council Board, member of the City of St. Catharines Older Adult Advisory Committee, and holds the position of Director on the Board of the Ontario Association of Councils on Aging. Dominic was the former Director of Seniors Services for the Regional Municipality of Niagara, where he was responsible for overseeing the management of eight long-term care homes, a dementia care assessment centre, ten adult day programs and numerous other community/assisted living programs, and was the former Director on the Board of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN).
