AFC Webinar – Intergenerational Connections through the GrandPals Project: Insights, Discussion and Next Steps

This webinar will provide an introduction to intergenerational programming, share key learnings from a program called GrandPals and outline the connections with age friendly action plans. GrandPals is a successful, intergenerational program that started in 2010. It connects middle school students with older adults (55+) enabling learning, storytelling and meaningful friendships. This webinar will include interactive components to provide space for participants to share their insights on intergenerational programming.
By the end of this webinar, you will have a greater understanding of intergenerational programming including: the benefits associated with it; an example; steps to set up intergenerational programming; and, how it can fit into an age friendly action plan. You’ll also hear from your peers on key considerations for intergenerational programs to harness the wealth of knowledge from the AFCI community.
Julia (Jules) Myer’s background is in youth engagement, partnerships and sport for development. Jules is currently the Project Manager for GrandPals, a program focused on connecting generations for intergenerational friendship, sharing and storytelling. Jules has more than 15 years of experience working in the non-profit sector developing, implementing and scaling programs for children and youth. She began her career at Right To Play and over the course of 9+ years, she envisioned and founded the schools department, growing it from one school engaged to more than 31 partnerships with school boards. As the Director of Youth Engagement at Plan International Canada, she oversaw a portfolio of 14 programs that engaged young people in advancing gender equality both in Canada and globally. Most recently, Jules started a consulting firm, FAAB Inc., to support nonprofits improve their performance and explore new opportunities for progress.
