AFC Webinar – Leading & Learning with Pride: City of Toronto’s Revitalized Tool Kit for Supporting 2SLGBTQI+ Seniors

October 19, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Description

Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and gender- and sexually-diverse (2SLGBTQI+) seniors navigate complex challenges as they age, including discriminatory policies in care settings, social isolation due to familial rejection or loss of chosen family, and providers who lack the knowledge necessary to deliver affirming support. To address these gaps, the City of Toronto Seniors Services and Long-Term Care (SSLTC) revitalized a training Tool Kit called Leading & Learning with Pride. The revitalized Tool Kit focuses on promoting respectful, inclusive, and affirming care for Queer and Trans Seniors and was co-developed with a working group of lived experience advisors, service providers, advocates, and allies. This presentation will provide an overview of the Tool Kit’s redevelopment, launch, and implementation, with specific focus on lessons learned about partnership to promote age-friendly communities for 2SLGBTQI+ Seniors.
