AFC Webinar – Making the Connection: How Technology Can Reduce Isolation and Loneliness among Older Adults

Drawing from the literature and a national environmental scan, speakers Dr. John Puxty and Ms. Sarah Webster reviewed the prevalence and impact of social isolation and loneliness among older adults before and during the pandemic, described the use of technology by older adults during this same time period, and explored technology strategies to reduce isolation and loneliness within this population.

Presenter Bios

Sarah Webster Sarah is Manager of the Centre for Studies in Aging and Health at Providence Care. She is co-Chair of Specialized Geriatric Service East Committee and the Ontario Collaborative for Aging Well. Sarah holds a Master of Health Studies and an hon. B.A. in Gerontology and Psychology. Sarah has extensive experience in the field of knowledge translation and exchange and has a long history of helping people access information, connect to each other and strengthen their work.

Dr. John Puxty Dr. John Puxty is a Geriatrician and Associate Professor at Queen’s University, and Director of the Centre for Studies in Aging and Health and Southeastern Ontario Regional Geriatric Program. Dr. Puxty is past-Chair of the Division of Geriatrics at Queen’s University, the Seniors Health Knowledge Network, and Ontario Interdisciplinary Council for Aging and Health. He has a primary interest in promoting healthy aging and wellness for older adults through his ongoing research in aging, age-friendly communities, memory disorders, and knowledge mobilization strategies.
