Webinar – Attract, Adapt, Implement and Sustain an Evidence Informed Exercise Program to Prevent Falls
March 15, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Free
Description
Join us on March 15, from 12-1pm (Eastern), where Dr. Danielle Bouchard discusses the AAIMS (Attract, Adapt, IMplement and Sustain) project, which is focused on evidence informed exercise programs to prevent falls.
The best single way to reduce the number of fall injuries is to exercise regularly. As a result, many communities offer exercise programs for older adults to help reduce falls. However, according to the latest Canadian report, fewer than one in ten fall prevention exercise programs provide the best program possible, meaning that programs should be offered all year long, a least three hours per week, and focus on balance activities. In addition, some Canadians do not have such a program in their region.
Our team includes local, provincial, and national partners, in addition to researchers and students from Canada and Northern Ireland. They have all collaborated to plan the Attract, Adapt, IMplement and Sustain (AAIMS) project to understand how to:
- attract people who currently do not participate in fall prevention exercise programs;
- adapt the programs currently offered that do not meet the recommendations;
- offer a program that follows recommendations if needed;
- keep offering a program in community settings.
