Webinar – Evidence-based communication strategies that support person-centered dementia care

Participants will be introduced to the components of person-centered communication and will learn about language-based and nonverbal strategies that support person-centered dementia care. Participants will also be introduced to Be EPIC, a person-centered communication training for health care workers on the frontline. The session will showcase the interactive learning included in Be EPIC on the use of person-centered communication.

Presenters

Marie Y. Savundranayagam, PhD, FGSA

Dr. Marie Savundranayagam is Associate Profession in the School of Health Studies at Western University and the Director of the Sam Katz Community Health and Aging Research Unit. Her research is on family and formal caregiving. Dr. Savundranayagam’s research aims a) to understand factors that contribute to poor- and high-quality caregiving experiences, and b) to use that knowledge to develop, implement, and assess evidence-informed interventions that enrich their caregiving experiences. She also co-leads the Conversation Study within Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration and Aging’s (CCNA) Team 17, which focused on the interface between sensory abilities, cognition, and communication.
