Webinar – Talking about the Aging Body: Critical reflections on possibilities and boundaries shaped through ‘positive aging’ discourses

May 25, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Description

Description: Drawing upon narrative data generated with older adults, this presentation highlights the need for critical reflexivity on how the aging body is constructed within ‘positive aging’ discourses. Informed by a governmentality perspective, this analysis centers on the body as a terrain for governing and exercising citizenship in ways aligned with neoliberal demands for individual responsibility. Concerns regarding ageist implications and widening inequities are raised, as is the need for expanding possibilities for aging well.
