Falls Prevention & Management Stakeholders Meeting
This half day event (Friday June 19th 9am to 1pm at KFLA Public Health at 221 Portsmouth Ave, Kingston) was organized by the South East Local Health Integration Network, Centre for Studies in Aging & Health, Community & Primary Care, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, Kingston Frontenac Lennox & Addington Public Health, Leeds Grenville Lanark District Health Unit, Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation, South East Community Care Access Centre and Victorian Order of Nurses. This working meeting was geared towards Health Care Providers with an interest in developing a Regional Integrated Falls Prevention & Management Strategy which included a full spectrum of perspectives from prevention to treatment.
The goals of the participatory event were to:
- Strengthen linkages, communication and collaboration among key stakeholders across the region
- Create, identify and share opportunities for practitioner and stakeholder partnerships to support the development of a regional strategy
- Identify and present Ontario and other jurisdictions experiences of an integrated falls prevention and management strategy

The Fall Prevention Community of Practice (CoP) is a group who come together to exchange information on fall prevention in older adults to advance the field of practice. Membership is free and services include access to webinars and other educational events, email updates on cutting-edge research and best practice implementation, library services, and networking opportunities with practitioners and health care organizations. The CoP currently has a membership of over 1700 in Ontario, with plans to expand nationally in the coming years. The Fall Prevention CoP is sponsored by the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation and is a part of the Seniors Health Knowledge Network (SHKN).
