WEBINAR DESCRIPTION
Date: June 24 2020
Presenters:
- Devan Nambiar, MSc., Program Manager at Rainbow Health Ontario, Sherbourne Health
- Kristin Loates, MPH(C), completing her Master of Public Health at the University of Guelph
This webinar discusses aging in the LGBT2SQ communities and how service providers can deliver more inclusive and supportive programming. The impact of minority stress, challenges of growing up in an era when it was criminal to be LGBT2SQ, stigma, discrimination and isolation, as well as strengths such as resilience and identity are explained. Participants are given practical ways to provide sensitive, competent and inclusive community programming and services for LGBT2SQ individuals such as using inclusive language, offering online/virtual Pride celebrations, “rainbow” ribbons and wishing LGBT2SQ seniors “Happy Pride”. A Master of Public Health Student also shares updates on their current research exploring long-term care policies and the many aspects of care for LGBT2SQ older adults.
