How Dementia Affects Behaviours

INTRODUCTION

Dementia causes a variety of changes in the individual’s function (see below). These changes can impact on their awareness and perception of their environment and interactions with others. As a result, their response and behaviour towards friends and loved ones may be altered. For example, when tired and in poor lighting they may not recognize someone or where they are and so feel anxious and unsafe and respond accordingly.
