Speaker – Rachel Weldrick, Ph.D.
Rachel Weldrick, PhD is a gerontologist and CMHC-SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her work investigates the intersections of aging, social inclusion, housing, and neighbourhoods. Rachel completed her PhD in Social Gerontology at McMaster University where she studied place-based risk factors and neighbourhood characteristics linked to social isolation and exclusion among older people. Since then, Rachel conducted postdoctoral work at Simon Fraser University with the Aging in the Right Place Partnership – a cross-Canada project addressing homelessness and housing insecurity among older persons. Now working in Toronto and Hamilton, Rachel’s research examines the housing and service models that best support renters over the age of 80 who live alone.
